Wax Melt Warning or Wax Melts Care & Burning Instructions:
Place your wax melts in a melt approved wax warmer / burner and never add water
Always use a burner which is designed for wax melts because not all wax melts fully melt in non-approved types of burners and not all burners will be safe to use. Wax heats at a higher temperature compared to oil so it’s incompatible with certain oil burners and can pose a fire risk if melted using an incorrect burner. While some types of oil burners can take wax cubes, others cannot. To use, place a wax tart into the burner and then light an unscented tealight underneath it. There is no need to add water.
Place your melt warmer in a stable position away from drafts and flammable objects
The wax melt warmer should be placed within sight but away from windows, pets, and children. The warmer should be placed on a heat resistant, secure, and stable surface before lighting (if using a tealight candle), and away from flammable objects, such as paper, curtains, plastic, furniture, or any other combustible objects which might pose a fire hazard. A wind draft can carry a tealight candle flame so make sure that the melt warmer is placed away from windows and that there is adequate distance between the candle and any flammable objects. If you want to avoid flames completely, you can use an electrical melt warmer, but these do use a fair amount of electricity.
Do not leave your wax melt warmer on for extended periods of time (max 4h at a time for tealight candles and 10h for electric warmers)
How long a melt warmer lasts, depends on the type and size of the wax melt warmer. An electric warmer can remain on for up to 10 hours consecutively, on average, before the bulb needs to be replaced, and a tealight candle should not be left burning for longer than 4 hours. The reason for this is because leaving a candle burning for too long can result in damage to your melt warmer, and can result in wick mushrooming, where the wick ends up longer than usual. Balls of carbon build up on the wick, leading to a larger flame, and more heat, as more wax is pulled up the wick. A wick mushroom is obviously dangerous as a fire hazard, but also damaging to the candle itself because when the carbon balls fall into the melting wax, and when the burning leaves soot.
Never leave a wax tarts burner/ warmer unattended. Put it out / turn it off before leaving the room
The risk of leaving a burner or warmer unattended, is the possibility that nearby flammable objects might catch on fire, when using a tealight candle. Unattended candles lead to tragic deaths and destruction every year globally. According to the National Candle Association (NCA), in the US there are around 18000 candle-related fires every year, with 36% of those fires being caused by unattended candles. A tealight candle should never be left unattended. Rather extinguish the candle before leaving the room and relight it again upon return. Take precautions to safeguard against these risks by fitting smoke detectors, and by keeping your burner away from combustible items.
Keep out of the reach of children and pets
Children and pets can also be a fire hazard. There is the risk that children or pets bump over the melt warmer, or that children accidentally start fires while using it. Children should be educated about the dangers of heat and fire, and if possible, prohibited from using melt warmers and candles. Warmers or burners should also be kept out of reach of pets at home. Pets can easily knock over a melt burner and start a fire by accident.
